Get Involved

At Middlesex we are always working to improve the student experience. We aim to ensure that you have a fantastic journey with us starting from the day you apply to come to Middlesex, all the way through your course and even after you graduate.

The best way for you to make the most of your time at University is to get involved, an important element of which is to communicate with us. Whether its a compliment or a complaint, we are equally keen to hear from you. We will make every effort to act on your feedback, which will not only help improve things for you but also for other current and future Middlesex students.

How can I get involved?

There are a number of ways in which you can communicate with us and give us your feedback:

Have Your Say - online student community

"Have Your Say" is an online social network exclusively for current Middlesex students. It gives you the opportunity to give us your opinions, ideas and feedback on whatever topics you want to talk about. Tell us what is important to you, and how you feel about life at Middlesex by joining in forum discussions, starting up groups or even by writing your own blog about student life. It is also a great way to connect with other students outside of your course. To find out more and to sign up, see Have Your Say.

Become a Student Representative

Every module/ programme at the University has the provision for having a student representative. The student reps help improve communication between the University and the students on the module/ programme they are representing. If students have concerns regarding their studies or any other University-related issues, they can feed these back to the University via their student rep. Similarly, the University also regularly contacts and consults with the reps regarding its activities and decisions that affect students.

If you would like to become a student rep, speak to your module/ programme leader or the Students' Union, who run the Student Rep Scheme. You can also get more information on the Scheme along with training dates from the MUSU website

Boards of study

Students can voice their concerns over anything to do with their module/ programme at Boards of Study. These meetings are held at least twice a year for every School and are attended by academic staff from that school as well as the respective students representatives.

Campus Forums

Campus Forums take place on each of the main campuses, providing an open forum where students and Middlesex staff representatives can discuss various elements of the student experience other than academic study, such as facilities and other campus-based issues. All students are welcome to attend. Issues can be raised by emailing Teresa Kelly or through your student rep or the Students' Union. For more information and minutes from previous Forum meetings, see Campus Forums.

National Student Survey

The National Student Survey (NSS) is an annual survey of final year university students across the UK. It comprises 22 questions which give students an opportunity to provide important feedback on their experience at university. The results provide prospective students and Middlesex University with a measure of student satisfaction in teaching and student life. The National Student Survey takes place every year from January until April.

It is important that you participate in the NSS because the feedback obtained is an invaluable source of information for prospective students, employers, and for each university whose students take part. In addition to this, the results contribute to many of the university league tables published by national newspapers. For more information, see National Student Survey

International Student Barometer (ISB)

The International Student Barometer is a student survey conducted twice a year by an independent research agency, i-Graduate. The survey specifically looks at Middlesex University’s international students’ experience. Students are asked about their satisfaction in all areas of university life from their reception at the University to teaching and language support, career services, accommodation and even food on campus. The survey is held twice a year - in autumn and then again in spring. All international students are contacted by email to take part in the survey.Go to top

SB/ ISB Student Satisfaction Survey

Just as you receive regular feedback from us as you progress through your studies, we need to receive regular feedback from you.  The Student Barometer is your opportunity to tell us what’s working, what’s frustrating and what you think of your university experience to date.

The survey forms part of a wider ongoing study and is independently administered for the University by the International Graduate Insight Group (i-graduate.org). As a thank-you for completing the questionnaire, i-graduate again offers the opportunity to win a £1,000 cash prize or suggest a £1,000 donation to charity.

Your response, together with the response from others, helps us to improve the student experience for current and future students.

If you have responded previously, please do so again now.  We recognise that opinions change over time.  Equally, if previous concerns remain, we need to know.

Your views will be treated in strictest confidence and the University will not identify you from your response.

Formal Suggestions and Complaints

Although we try our best that student problems are resolved at the earliest possible, sometimes you may find that you wish to make a formal compaint or suggestion. This may be with regards a service, a member of staff, another student or an appeal against your exam results. You can find out the formal procedure for making a complaint at Suggestions & ComplaintsGo to top

Focus Groups and Interviews

We often need students to take part in focus groups or interviews so that we can hear your opinions face-to-face or on a specific topic. We usually pay students for their time so it is a great way for students to earn a little extra money, while also being an opportunity for you to give direct feedback to the University.

If you would like us to contact you in the future to take part in focus groups or interviews please email your full name, student number, the title of your course and your year of study to Maria Luisa Ross at M.Ross@mdx.ac.ukGo to top
